Donald K MacDougall

Dreaming the north wood no.1

Donald MacDougall was brought up in Lochgilphead, Mid-Argyll. He was trained at Glasgow School of Art 1969-73. Following art school he worked as an art therapist in the Argyl and Bute psychiatric hospital for a number of years.

He lived in Edinburgh from 1979 to 2002 during which time he worked in community mental health as a trained social worker though over the last 10 years his focus has been primarily on painting and his work as a recording and touring musician.

Donald has lived in East Lothian since 2002 during which time he has returned to full time painting. He has exhibited widely with an increasing
amount of work in private collections and galleries. Following a successful one man show in the Edinburgh festival in 2006 and a near sellout major, joint exhibition with fellow East Lothian artist Linda McCann at the Birnam Institute, Dunkeld in 2008, his work is increasingly sought after.

Donald’s partially abstracted landscapes have been newly inspired by living in East Lothian with its rich rolling countryside, outbursts of
woods and the fantastic light of the Firth of Forth skies.
